Power Does

Power summons euphoria:
Like a hit of heroin,
Actively kissing your crush,
Or an audience of thousands
Singing your song back to you.

Power breeds hubris.
When your thought, comment, or action
Manifest change in the world,
Exerting control over your environment
And over others’ lives,
What separates you from the divine?

Power attracts privileges:
Thousands of veils filtering our vision,
Like a blizzard.

Power with and power over
Is a distinction
That may have no impact on
The effect of power on the wielder.

Power is a powerful drug in moderation
And is fatal at high dose
To the consumer,
To their spirit,
To their awareness,
And to humanity.
